We had minimal contact with the seller’s solicitors, who were kept in the dark. Funds verification was checked at the beginning and then again at the last minute, despite us having months to sort it out. Perhaps most disturbing was the data handling: we were asked to send sensitive ID documents via unsecured email. When I raised concerns about the risk of fraud, I was told that refusing to send my ID would cost us an extra £200 (plus VAT) per hour. It felt like financial bullying designed to silence valid concerns about data security. To top it off, our main solicitor left the firm after we’d already paid our fees, with no proper handover of outstanding matters. After the transaction, we were promised a full pack of completion documents. This promise was broken repeatedly. We chased up for weeks with no response. When we finally received our land registry deeds months later, we were told the promised pack wasn’t included and would cost an extra £150. Even then, they could only provide individual documents, not the full compiled pack, which seemed like a basic function for their IT system. When I finally requested a list of the data they held on me, I had to ask three times and still only received a partial answer. It’s hard to trust "legal experts" who don’t seem to understand basic compliance and safeguarding protocols. I’m writing this to warn others. Buying a home should be a happy occasion, but dealing with Convey Law added a massive layer of unnecessary stress and suspicion. They overpromised and underdelivered on almost every front.

The sellers’ solicitors proposed a completion date I didn’t even know about until my estate agent told me, and I had to confirm it with Convey Law myself, only to hear nothing back since. **Update (16/09/2024):** I received a call on 13/09/2024 from my conveyancer who had reviewed my questions about the extra charges. We had a brief call on Friday at 4:20 PM where he said he’d be out of the office for the next two weeks and his manager would take over. He claimed he’d be working the weekend and would call me Sunday to follow up. But the call ended abruptly because I was in a meeting. He never called. Sunday came and went. I’m now sending another email just to confirm who is actually handling my case. My bank notified me that my mortgage offer is expiring, a fact I’ve been warning Convey Law about for weeks, yet no one seems to care. I’m taking this to the Legal Ombudsman because there’s nothing left I can do. Well done, Convey Law, for making my first property purchase a stress-filled disaster.
