This was my second visit here, previous was 9 yrs ago. Not much has changed (which is good). Counselors are great with the kids, and us adult chaperones.
The cabins are spacious, and well maintained, as is the rest of the camp. The location is absolutely beautiful; it doesn't matter if it's cold and rainy, snowy, whatever.... it's just perfect out here.
The only thing I noticed was that they've become a bit skimpy on the meals. We would barely get through 1 small serving, trying to get a second and food was already run out. I remember a much more robust meal service 9 years ago...and it's needed, the kids and adult chaperones really get a lot of movement so nourishment is a necessity.
Otherwise I'm looking forward to bringing my last child here in about 4 years.
Love it! We were 1st timers this year.. Kids had a great time and it's a great opportunity for caregiver respite, if you will. Thank you to everyone who makes this happen!
I had the pleasure of going here when I was 12 years old. I'm now 40 and happy to know they are still around and my own son will be going in September!! Great job Camp Joy
Went to therapy and unlocked a memory of this place.. abusive and needs to be investigated by the FBI (this was in 2005 ish)
Excellent venue for a retreat. I was really worried the cabins were going to be exceptionally cool being in the middle of January but they were very warm.
I went when I was a teen I loved everything about this camp if I had any kids of my own I wouldn't hesitate to send them here at all lots of fun and great place to make friends and memories 5 star for sure
The best camp I have ever been too. Every counselor made me feel special and I had the best time of my life. I cried my last day because I knew how much I was going to miss it. But I am most definitely going back next year, no doubt about it. If you are sending your child here I am telling you they will come back with so many amazing stories of friends and the new adventures they had! Such a great and loving place. It all is so amazing . Thank you Camp Joy for the amazing experience I had this summer and I am so excited for next year !
I went here when I was 12 on a school field trip for the underground railroad thing. The ropes and everything was great. However the railroad stuff was too much. As a now 24yr old I know what they were doing WAS NOT OKAY. They did aim props at us and man handle us. And at that age I was too scared to tell anyone not know that it was literally abuse. Need to get rid of that program or shut down.
