About Camp casey

Camp Casey is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit horseback riding program for children with cancer and rare blood disorders.

Camp Casey: Bringing Joy and Hope to Children with Cancer and Rare Blood Disorders

Camp Casey is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides horseback riding programs for children with cancer and rare blood disorders. Founded in 2004 by Molly Reeser, Camp Casey has been dedicated to bringing joy, hope, and healing to children who are battling life-threatening illnesses.

The idea behind Camp Casey was inspired by Molly's own experience as a cancer survivor. She realized that there was a need for more than just medical treatment for children with cancer. They needed something that would lift their spirits, boost their confidence, and give them a sense of normalcy amidst the chaos of hospital visits and treatments.

That's where horses come in. Horses have been known to have therapeutic benefits for people of all ages, especially those who are dealing with physical or emotional challenges. Horseback riding can help improve balance, coordination, muscle strength, and flexibility. It can also provide a sense of accomplishment and empowerment as riders learn new skills.

At Camp Casey, children get the opportunity to ride horses in a safe environment under the guidance of trained volunteers. The program is free for families who participate thanks to generous donations from individuals and organizations.

In addition to horseback riding lessons, Camp Casey also offers other activities such as arts & crafts projects, games & puzzles sessions as well as storytelling sessions which help create an atmosphere where kids can relax while having fun at the same time.

One unique aspect of Camp Casey is its mobile program called "Horsey House Calls". This program brings miniature horses directly into hospitals or homes where children are receiving treatment or recovering from surgery. The miniature horses provide comfort through petting therapy while giving patients something positive to focus on during their recovery process.

Another important aspect of Camp Casey is its commitment to sustainability practices such as using solar panels on its trailers which transport horses around Texas so they don't rely on fossil fuels alone; recycling materials used during events like paper cups or plastic bottles; composting food waste generated at events instead of throwing it away; planting trees around campgrounds etc., all aimed at reducing environmental impact while promoting eco-friendly practices among participants.

Camp Casey has received numerous awards over the years including recognition from Texas Governor Greg Abbott who declared April 29th "Camp Casey Day" in honor of its contributions towards improving lives affected by childhood cancer across Texas communities.

If you're looking for ways to support this amazing organization you can donate online via their website or volunteer your time helping out at one of their many events throughout the year!
