Bumblebees are familiar and much-loved insects that pollinate our crops and wildflowers. We have a vision for a world where bumblebees are thriving and valued. We are the only charity in the UK that is dedicated solely to the conservation of bumblebees – saving the sound of summer!
Bumblebee Conservation Trust: Saving the Sound of Summer
Bumblebees are an essential part of our ecosystem, pollinating crops and wildflowers that provide food for both humans and animals. Unfortunately, bumblebee populations have been declining rapidly in recent years due to habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change. That's where the Bumblebee Conservation Trust comes in - a UK-based charity dedicated solely to the conservation of bumblebees.
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust was founded in 2006 by a group of scientists who were concerned about the decline in bumblebee populations. Their vision is for a world where bumblebees are thriving and valued, and they work tirelessly towards this goal through research, education, and conservation efforts.
One of the key ways that the Bumblebee Conservation Trust works towards their vision is through their BeeWalk citizen science project. This project encourages members of the public to walk a set route once a month between March and October each year, recording any sightings of bumblebees along the way. This data helps to build up a picture of how bumblebee populations are changing over time across different regions.
In addition to their citizen science projects, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust also works with farmers and landowners to create bee-friendly habitats on farmland. They provide advice on planting wildflowers that are attractive to bees as well as creating nesting sites for them.
Another important aspect of their work is raising awareness about why bumblebees are so important for our ecosystem. They run educational programs for schools as well as providing resources such as posters and leaflets that explain why we need to protect these vital insects.
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust relies heavily on donations from individuals who share their passion for protecting these beloved insects. They also receive funding from grants and corporate partnerships which allows them to continue their vital work towards saving the sound of summer.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a charity that is making a real difference to the world we live in, then look no further than the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. Their dedication to protecting bumblebees and their habitats is truly inspiring, and their work will ensure that these vital insects continue to thrive for generations to come. So why not get involved today and help save the sound of summer?
