I own both the six and eight-foot versions and they are hands down my favorite leashes for every situation. Their versatility is fantastic. Having spent over three decades training and showing dogs, I can confidently say these are the finest leads I’ve ever used from Bold Lead Designs.

It holds up beautifully even with large, strong-pulling dogs, and while it does need occasional conditioning, it only gets softer and better with use. My only suggestions would be to offer more carabiner options for those who want extra security during working dog scenarios, and perhaps a slip lead design with adjustable safety stoppers to prevent it from getting too tight or loose. Overall, this is serious, reliable gear that I’d recommend to anyone looking for American-made quality.

Bill’s customer service was outstanding; he called to make sure we got the details exactly right, showing such patience and care. I paired this lead with the Perfect No Pace No-Pull harness, which completely transformed our walks. We tested it during a chaotic trip through four airports, and it was a lifesaver. I could wrap it around my waist and clip it to the second ring to keep my pup close and safe without holding the leash. If I needed to give her more slack so she could lie down, I just pulled her end. Despite the crowds, running passengers, and noise, she walked calmly and attentively. For potty breaks, unclipping gave her plenty of room to move. Now that we’re back home, we use this setup at the grocery store, and it still impresses me every time. It’s easily the best investment I’ve made for my dog, right alongside her BLD harness. I also own a tan version of this lead, but since it lacks that second ring, it doesn’t get as much use. People often misuse the term "buttery soft" to describe leather, but this is genuinely soft to the touch. The half-inch width is perfect for handling a medium-to-large service dog without being overly bulky. I typically fold it in half, which leaves just enough length to loop around my wrist while holding her BAH harness without dragging on the ground. When we need more room, the full length is ideal for her to do her business while staying close to me. I’ve noticed that the nose loop on the leather version doesn’t release tension as smoothly as the Sporn does when I pull on the leash, but the build quality, segment length, and overall weight are far superior. I’m confident that once the leather breaks in and softens up, it’ll glide much better.
