Great beer garden and reasonable drink prices. Venue advertising says to ask staff about food options, but they say they don't do food

Don't judge a book by its cover! This pub is a little gem! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and the awesome beer garden is doggy friendly :)

Decent place to stay for a good price. Small so not overcrowded. Don't expect too much though. It's not the cleanest environment and definitely not the most silent one. But your pretty much near the centre for a affordable price!

There was rats! a lot of noise and cleanliness is bad

The staff here rock, especially the guy named Stew. Not sure what to drink? Ask Stew, he's your guy... Not only does Stew make great drinks, he's got killer jokes.

Excellent place to go if you're looking to omit the undue pressure and stresses of married life...wait a minute...I'm not married. Its a great place anyway! And anyone who says otherwise probably either yells "humbug" during christmas, or steals candy from babies...or both.

The owner is very friendly and hard-working.
The atmosphere is very relaxed here but there is a lack of hygiene here.
I can not recommend this hostel.

Its a hostel with a lovely atmosphere that doesnt hurt your wallet at all and is also only 1 km away from southern cross. The staff is exceptionally helpful even helping me to find a good doctor. When I had to take my camper car to the garage they also let me store heaps of camping equipment in their backroom for 2 days.
A nice place to stay in the city with incredibly helpful hosts. Definately recommended!

Couldn't really complain, but didn't blow me away... But it's a backpackers so not like it'd be fair to expect it to.

Good beer garden!

Poor location and dirty hostel. easily a 20 minute journey in to the city. The rooms were filthy and the lights did not work. Furthermore the showers were cold and automatically turn off after 4 minutes! Additionally, the lights in the bathroom did not work either, so I was forced to poo in the pitch black dark!

To make matters worse, the owner was by far the most unfriendly hostel owner I have ever met. I've travelled all over Australia and Europe- staying in countless hostels and I can honestly tell you the owner is by far the most unfriendly I have ever had the displeasure to encounter. the hostel is full of aggressive signs telling you if you break the rules you will be kicked out! rules such as: no guests allowed upstairs, no talking upstairs at night , or you will be kicked out! my friend made the error of inviting a local friend to our room at about 6pm and we were violently sworn at and insulted by the owner. we truly had no idea we were doing anything wrong and were incredibly apologetic, but he had clearly been drinking and was literally screaming at us. I cannot mention the obscenities he called us, but it was every name under the sun ( some of which were blatantly racist). he even went as far as to grab the guest we had by the throat and told him if he ever returned he would "bash him".

Really awful place, trust me, spend the extra 5 a night for a better located hostel which will be far superior.

PS they give you a free beer if u rate it 5 stars, so I'm pretty positive that's the only reason anyone has rated 5 stars unless they've never been to another hostel before!!

One Star for the backpackers there! Your awesome! Hostel has a very small kitchen, rooms aren't average and it takes you pretty long to the next supermarked ect. Only the atmosphere is good, but the owner is sometimes very unfriendly

Very happy to take your hard earned money, dog service and the lass behind the bar is A bit 2 faced. Nice when your spending cash not so nice at closing time. As a local, this pub has lost 2 customers and many more potentials... poor form

Very small hostel so the atmosphere was nice as you knew most people around. The kitchen is also big and nicely equipped. Because of not opening window blinds or water on the floor in the toilets or windows not staying opened you sometimes need to improvise a bit. If you are used to that it's a great place to stay. Also it's only 22$

This bar is another melbourne Gem. Stu the owner / manager remembers my name every time i go there even after a 7 month lock down. Hes such a cool guy and plays awesome music. Makes the effort to come and spend time with customers. They sometimes provide FREE FOOD too lol. Their beer garden is one of the nicest in the city for day drinking. Lots of plants and street art. 2 pools tables and extreme sports showing on their TV. So relieved to be able to return there after COVID.

Staying at Bev And Mick's Backpackers was a great and fun experience the young and relax guests were welcoming and great. And the lovely couple who are Owners, Managers' and Barmen are a great success story for in these days of gay pride and equal rights. Daniel And Stewart my inspiration to find my one true love. Highly recommend.

Great local pub, always lively of a Friday night. Fantastic for a few pints with friends!

WIFI doesn't work upstairs, especially in the private rooms. But friendly staff.

Absolutley AWFUL. I advise eveyrone to read the reviews online and look at the pictures about this place. It's absolutley disgusting! The staff are awful, the rooms have no lights, no fire alarms, and you go to the toilet in the dark. The kitchen is black with grime, the floors are disgusting (nails everywhere) and the showers are cold. You'd be better off sleeping in a carboard box. $22 a night sounds good? Honestly, pay $5 more and get somewhere, ANYWHERE, better than this place. Again, please look at the reviews, they're ALL bad!!!!!!

Good place, staff is friendly and flexible. The bar is fun, lots of activities. Also enjoyed the beergarden a lot, where you can relax in the sun. Free bbq every week as well. Its a budget hostel so no big luxury. Still everything gets cleaned every day.
I can recommend this place to every backpacker.

Dirty / littered room (always depends on the people, but the landlord could also say something)
Dirty and poorly equipped kitchen, disastrous refrigerators
Unfriendly staff (at least on the last day, it was more like being kicked out than saying goodbye)
Broken showers, bad seals (every time you look you have put the toilet under water)
No lockers

Positive things:
Very cozy seating area in the upper area
A bar downstairs

I love this place it feels like a home away from home the staff are all friendly its a social backpackers above a pub and it's a good location. the price you can't complain at I would definitely recommend this backpackers over any other that I have stayed in around Melbourne
