My experience with Bergstrom Chevrolet Buick of Neenah was a mix of nice amenities and frustrating service practices. The dealership itself is a classy environment; I even appreciated that a salesperson brought me coffee when the waiting room machine was broken. They also provided a loaner car, which was helpful since our van needed more than a day in the shop. However, the service experience was expensive and poorly communicated. I was surprised by a $179 diagnostic fee just to have a mechanic look at the fuel pump issues causing rough starting, even though I knew what was wrong. When I questioned why I was paying for a diagnosis on top of the repair, I was told the mechanic’s time has to be paid for. While I understand labor costs, it feels wrong to charge the full diagnostic fee when they find the problem and immediately fix it, rather than waiving or reducing the cost. The total bill was high, and with no senior discounts or coupons available, it stings—especially for a vehicle with only 65,000 miles. The bigger issue, however, was the lack of follow-up. The next day, after driving 100 miles home, our van had trouble starting again. My husband realized the main battery cable had been left loose. We tried calling Nic, our service person, twice, leaving messages both times, but never received a callback to explain what happened or offer a solution. It’s unacceptable to leave a customer hanging for days after a major repair. Despite their nice facility, the high fees and poor communication made me likely to switch to a local mechanic in the future.
