Be Like Brit: A Beacon of Hope for the Children of Haiti
Be Like Brit is a non-profit organization that was founded in memory of Britney Gengel, a young woman who lost her life during the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010. Her parents, Len and Cherylann Gengel, were determined to honor their daughter's legacy by continuing her mission to help the children of Haiti.
The organization's commitment is to continue the compassion of Britney Gengel by serving the children of Haiti and raising the next generation of leaders. Be Like Brit has built an orphanage in Grand Goave, a town located about an hour outside Port-au-Prince. The orphanage provides a safe and nurturing home for over 60 children who have been affected by poverty, natural disasters or other circumstances beyond their control.
The Be Like Brit orphanage is not just any ordinary facility; it is designed to be earthquake-proof and hurricane-resistant. The building has been constructed with reinforced steel beams and concrete walls that can withstand winds up to 150 miles per hour. This means that even during natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes, the children are safe inside their home.
Apart from providing shelter for these vulnerable children, Be Like Brit also offers them access to education and healthcare services.
