Archbold Biological Station

Absolutely lovely place preserving endangered ecosystems, flora and fauna, here in Florida. You must make the trip and help keep this place going and help keep Florida wild.

Archbold is an internationally acclaimed biological research center. It has a small but very informative visitors center, and great nature trails to see and learn about local plants animals and habitats.

Very interesting stop for folks traveling through the area. Housed in a historic train depot, offices and labs are here to study the ecology of this rural area. There's a nice trail through the grounds where local plants and flowers can be observed and some tables under the trees for a quiet snack or lunch while you're there.

Biologically diverse, well-managed, and educational biological research station. World renowned and respected location and a place of significant, crucially-important scientific inquiry.

Sound ecology and people who truly love our ecosystem and educate everyone who comes there in a friendly and fun manner.

It is a little less than advertised. Really meant for school groups.

I grew up at Archbold, My Grandfather Dr. James N Layne was the first director My Father is Opperations manager. It has been a pleasure being a part of various research projects and support staff.

This biological station has some of the smartest and most motivated people in Florida ecology. Any questions on resource management and they'll give you the most current information on the subject. This place is a treasure.

Very nice place to bird watch, nature and spend a few hours

Great place dedicated to the research of the peculiar environment in which this biological station is enclosed.

A real nice place to not just hike but also stay overnight. They have a nice lodge and an interesting learning center.

As if this wasn't enough of a highlight, another worker took us for an impromptu ride in a side by side to put two gopher tortoises back in their habitat.

It was a great experience. There's plenty to learn and see. Lots of hiking trails and information about the local ecology.

Beautiful place. Saw lots of birds including many endangered scrub jays. Trails are very nice and well-maintained. The building is sustainable and really neat to see.

I visited the station with my conservation biology class, and it was great. The dorms/bathrooms are really nice as well. I recommend it for any teacher who wants to bring their students, of any age, to experience this great place.

Amazing adventure! We spent the weekend and had the opportunity of going on a variety of hikes with research scientists and staff. I learned so much in just a short weekend the most important was to look closely and see everything going on in the environment you are in.

Had a very pleasant experience attending a conference in the visitor center. The meeting facility and lodge have a Platinum LEED certification (the highest green building rating). Beautiful grounds. Trail head is right out the back door. Couldn t be a nicer setting.

What a great place! Very interesting history and current research. The visitors buildings have some nice exhibits and interpretive signage, and the research building is an old train depot warehouse built by Roebling for a the construction of a mansion that never happened.

This place during COVID is really really suffering. I had the most awful interaction ever calling on the phone, they were in a really bad mood. Sad, because then you realize these are bunch of researchers with no people skills whatsoever so they are not open to regular folks that are trying to learn. If you want to really learn, DO NOT GO TO ARCHBOLD BIOLOGICAL STATION. Their foundation is also ran by someone unscrupulous.

Excellent for students of all ages of biological sciences. Has green architecture in use that will inspire. The station's grounds are remarkably beautiful and scenic.

It's a beautiful habitat with biologists/ecologists living on site who's mission is to understand nature and seek ways to sustain it and how humans can live in harmony with it:D

This is one of those places that is a must see if you are interested in Florida unique habitats. The staff is great at explaining and helping spot flora and fauna. So much great research is going on out there!

Such a great place with all kinds of awesome things to learn and experience

Trails are very short. Not much for visitors to do because the venue is focused on researchers. If you just want a half hour walk then it's perfect.

A must see. Very cool, learn a little history of Florida's geological past. And a special ecosystem
