Amachi is an incredible organization that pairs amazing children with supportive mentors. My mentee has become like a little sister to me and I see her as often as I can (a few times a week!). I feel so welcomed in her family and she knows that she is welcomed in mine. Two families have come together through a friendship that will help ensure her success into adulthood. We are still in our first year of mentoring, and she's 7, but I'm so excited to be there to help her reach her aspirations . of becoming a veterinarian. I am incredibly blessed to have such a wonderful and fun kid in my life, I feel so lucky to be able to call myself her mentor. As an education major, I enjoy practicing my teaching methods when I help her with her homework or teach her a new skill. She has taught me a lot, too! For example, I am now familiar with Elf on the Shelf, a very cute tradition. (Santa sent me an elf after she petitioned to him!!) . I also learned how to make slime and some of the chemistry behind it (the elf also made slime!), and she taught me how to play various iPad games such as BlockParty. Having a "little sister" in my life is such a blessing and I'm so thankful for Amachi's role in matching us. We are so excited for the holiday party on Saturday!
