Akron Community Foundation: Making a Permanent Impact on the Community
Akron Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization that has been serving the Akron community for over 60 years. The foundation was established in 1955 with the mission to improve the quality of life in Akron by connecting donors with causes they care about and providing grants to support local nonprofits.
The foundation has grown significantly over the years, and today it manages more than 700 charitable funds with assets totaling over $200 million. These funds are created by individuals, families, businesses, and organizations who want to make a difference in their community.
One of the unique aspects of Akron Community Foundation is its ability to provide personalized philanthropic services. The foundation's staff works closely with donors to help them achieve their charitable goals while maximizing tax benefits. Donors can choose from a variety of giving options, including donor-advised funds, scholarship funds, designated funds, and unrestricted funds.
In addition to helping donors achieve their philanthropic goals, Akron Community Foundation also provides grants to support local nonprofits. The foundation's grantmaking focuses on four key areas: education, health & human services, arts & culture, and civic affairs. Through its grantmaking programs, Akron Community Foundation has awarded more than $190 million in grants since its inception.
One of the most significant initiatives undertaken by Akron Community Foundation is Summit Education Initiative (SEI). SEI is a collaborative effort between educators and community leaders aimed at improving educational outcomes for students in Summit County. SEI works closely with schools and other organizations to identify best practices for improving student achievement and then implements those practices throughout the county.
Another important program supported by Akron Community Foundation is ArtsNow. ArtsNow is an initiative aimed at promoting arts & culture throughout Summit County. ArtsNow works closely with artists and cultural organizations throughout the county to promote events and activities that showcase local talent.
Akron Community Foundation also supports numerous other programs aimed at improving health & human services throughout Summit County. These programs include initiatives focused on mental health awareness, substance abuse prevention & treatment, homelessness prevention & assistance among others.
