Access Sacramento: Giving Voice to the Community
Access Sacramento is a non-profit organization that has been serving the Sacramento community for over 30 years. Their mission is to provide training and resources to local members, giving them a platform to express their thoughts, dreams, opinions, and community events that are not otherwise seen or heard on commercial and public radio, television, and other popular forms of media.
The organization was founded in 1986 by Ron Cooper with the goal of creating a space where people from all walks of life could come together and share their stories. Access Sacramento believes that everyone has a story worth telling and they strive to give voice to those who may not have had the opportunity before.
One of the ways Access Sacramento achieves this goal is through their workshops. They offer classes in video production, podcasting, radio broadcasting, digital storytelling, and more. These workshops are open to anyone in the community who wants to learn how to create media content.
In addition to providing training opportunities for individuals in the community, Access Sacramento also operates two cable channels: Access Sacramento Channel 17 and AccessLocal.tv Channel 18. These channels air programming created by local residents as well as coverage of community events such as festivals and parades.
Access Sacramento also partners with other organizations in the area such as schools, libraries, and community centers. They work together on projects such as youth media programs which teach young people how to create media content while also building important skills like teamwork and communication.
Overall, Access Sacramento plays an important role in giving voice to those who may not have had an opportunity before. By providing training opportunities for individuals in the community along with operating two cable channels that air programming created by local residents as well as coverage of community events such as festivals and parades they help bring communities together while promoting diversity within them.
