About company

WHATWG (Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group) is a community of people focused on web development. It is mainly focused on the development of HTML and APIs needed for Web applications. WHATWG was founded in in 2004 by individuals from [Apple](http://www.crunchbase.com/organization/apple), the [Mozilla Foundation]( http://www.crunchbase.com/organization/mozilla-foundation), and [Opera Software](http://www.crunchbase.com/organization/opera-software) as a result of a W3C workshop. Apple, Mozilla and Opera were becoming increasingly concerned about the W3C’s direction with XHTML, lack of interest in HTML and apparent disregard for the needs of real-world authors. So, in response, these organizations set out with a mission to address these concerns and the Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group was formed.
