The Weschenfelder family have been in the sausage making business since 1921. Ludwig Weschenfelder arrived in the UK from Nurnberg in 1898 and found work as a butchers apprentice in Middlesbrough, working with his uncle, a German pork butcher. Ludwig moved into the sausage casing business before the First World War using skills handed down from his German family. He was interned on the Isle of Man during WW1 and on his release returned to Middlesbrough in 1921 to put the fledgling business on a firm footing.
