Water Harvesting leads the development and implementation of a new, sustainable, point-of-use drinking water source. This unique process extracts water from the air, even in the driest conditions. Water Harvesting uses Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs), a class of materials characterized by very high porosity, that can be tailored to selectively adsorb and capture a wide variety of chemical compounds. Developed at UC Berkeley, their MOF technology is specifically tailored for harvesting water from the atmosphere in relative humidity levels as low as 15%. In contrast to conventional atmospheric water harvesting systems, their MOF-based technology is very specific to water molecules, and it is capable of very rapid adsorption/desorption cycling. This ensures high water purity, with a low energy requirement.
