The company was founded in late 2009 with the aim of making it easier for trades-related workers and business to obtain appropriate insurance. Trade Risk uses a range of online technologies to make the insurance process easier and more convenient for time-poor tradespeople. The end-to-end process developed by the company allows tradespeople to insure themselves without having to pick up the phone or complete paper forms. In 2010 Trade Risk was named in Australian Anthill Magazine's annual Smart 100 list of innovative companies. Since 2011 the company has also been establishing a presence in New Zealand and is actively looking at other markets.
