Terhills has the task of transforming this site into a unique tourist destination. Terhills is located on the former Eisden mine site in the heart of the Euregion. It extends over an area of approximately 365 ha in Dilsen-Stokkem and Maasmechelen, on the edge of the only National Park in Belgium. Formed by its past as an industrial mine and gravel extraction site, the area today is characterized by lush fauna and flora, enormous water features and unique views from the mine. In 2011, 219 hectares of industrial land were transformed into nature (100 ha) and recreation (119 ha).
