Sound Insight is developing a device that can accurately measure sound absorption and sound intensity of each material. Their device is called SonoCat. SoundInSight is a spin-off company of the University of Twente. It focuses on the development of technical solutions to assist acoustic engineers to gain insight in their acoustic challenges and to solve them fast and efficiently. SoundInSight develops state of the art acoustic measuring methods and equipment. Its first product, the SonoCat, measures sound absorption, sound intensity/power and sound transmission of any material on site. With the use of the SonoCat, you don’t need to bring the material to the laboratory. Nor do you need to use an impedance tube, alpha-cabin or other measurement equipment that only determines the absorption coefficient for normal incident plane or spherical waves. The SonoCat can measure the effective absorption coefficient for complex shaped surfaces and can always be used, even for the most complex sound fields.
