Snap2Travel utilises picture recognition technology to link photos taken with a smartphone to online content for the travel industry. The service uses smartphones and pictures to connect the real world to the online world, so as to ‘enliven’ the picture by providing additional information of value to the user and enabling interactivity. The user takes a photo of a ‘snap-active’ picture or advertisement and sends that to ‘the internet’ (through their smartphone) which recognises the picture and then allows the user to browse additional information related to the picture. The Snap2Travel service will provide a complete ‘Look, Book and Go’ smartphone solution to enliven travel catalogue browsing and purchasing. The initial ‘Look’ service offers image recognition to provide pricing, availability and enhanced content. Mobile bookings will be provided through ‘Book’ functionality with ‘Go’ services such as recommendations etc available to consumers while they are on holiday.
