About company

San Francisco Tenants Union is a politically active non-profit fighting for the rights of tenants and for the preservation of affordable housing in San Francisco. Starting from the struggle for rent control in the 1970s, it has been an advocate for tenants. The union is supported by membership and counseling donations and this enables its advocacy to be uncompromising and not influenced by pressures from government or other funders. Since it campaigns for political candidates, donations are not tax deductible, although large donations may qualify. For both members and nonmembers, San Francisco Tenants Union operates a drop in counseling clinic. Its counselors are trained and experienced on virtually any aspect of landlord-tenant law. Some of the common problems it helps with include eviction attempts, harassment by the landlord or neighbors, moving in, parking and storage questions, pet and support animal questions, and more. San Francisco Tenants Union was formed in 1971.
