The San Francisco Planning Department works with other city agencies and the community to guide the growth and development of San Francisco. It works under the direction of the Planning Commission and aims to shape the future of San Francisco and the region by generating an vision for the general plan and in neighborhood plans; fostering design through planning controls; improving its surroundings through environmental analysis; preserving the city’s heritage; encouraging a broad range of housing and a diverse job base; and enforcing the planning code. In order to execute its mission, the San Francisco Planning Department is made up of five divisions: Current Planning, Citywide Planning, Environmental Planning, Zoning Administration and Compliance, and Administration. The San Francisco Planning Department is based in San Francisco, California.
