RNW is an independent media organization that provides information unavailable in local media because of legislation or taboos. It works on an equal footing with media organizations around in the world on the dissemination of free speech. RNW is active in China and 17 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the Arab world, where freedom of expression is severely restricted. RNW was founded in 1946 and is based in Hilversum, Netherlands.
