Power Line Systems is a product line developed by Automation Research Group based at University of Pennsylvania’s Pennovation Center. It uses the latest IEEE G3-PLC standards to communicate securely over existing power lines and is the culmination of about seven years of development by ARG into smart grid systems. These products enable cities and buildings to remotely communicate with and control existing lighting, infrastructure and sensors without installing any new wired or wireless systems. Essentially, the technology allows the implementation of a large area secured private network on existing power lines without having to connect via WiFi, Ethernet or cellular connections to the internet.
