The company was founded in 1985 as Biocyte Corporation. Through their dedicated research, Biocyte’s scientists were able to prove for the first time that stem cells contained in umbilical cord and placental blood could cure certain diseases previously treatable only with bone marrow. The clinical success of this research was highlighted by the first ever human transplant of stem cells from umbilical cord blood, conducted in Paris in 1988.
