OpenMedia is a community-based organization that engages, educates, and empowers people to safeguard the open and affordable internet through its citizen-driven campaigns. The organization appears at regulatory proceedings, trade negotiations, and other forums for policymaking on behalf of the citizens; meets with politicians to discuss about citizen-centered policies; and creates tools that allow citizens to communicate directly with their MPs and other decision-makers. The organization is known for co-coordinating Stop The Meter, an online campaign in Canada that involved over half-a-million people. OpenMedia received the ’Excellence in Youth Activism’ award at the B.C. Civil Liberties Association Liberty Awards 2013. It was also awarded at the CA Impact Awards 2011 in the ’Not-for-Profit’ category.
