OCOL distributes study lights and installs school bulk solar charging systems that act as literacy magnets to bring children back to school and increase literacy levels. This saves the family an average of $0.10 per day by not having to purchase kerosene, which keeps children in school. There are 60 million school children in India at risk of dropping out before completing their primary education. OCOL targets 20,000 schools in the 11 largest states of India to bring back and retain 4 million school going children. OCOL installs a solar bulk charging system in the village school and distributes LED study lights to the children attending classes. The children must come to school to have their study light recharged. This unique approach encourages children to come back to school with the support of their parents.
