Kiej de los Bosques is a company that exports products (under the brand Wakami) made by rural artisan groups, comprised of primarily of underprivileged women. Wakami sells bracelets, necklaces, accessories that tell stories, often integrating Mayan lore. Products are designed with two important premises: they are inspired in the global fashion trends, and can be produced by rural women. Kiej is currently working with 17 rural companies (artisan groups) spread out across Guatemala. Wakami has recently expanded beyond Guatemala and started to working with Chispas de Amor in Panama, which will be in charge of directing the first collection of Wakami Products made by women in the Darien Province of Panama. Kiej is led by three exceptional women with tremendous vision, integrity, business expertise and desire to create positive change.
