Japan Reference (JREF) was founded in 1999 as a modest collection of hyperlinks and online resources related to Japan. First hosted under “daopian.com” and “japanreference.com”, Japan Reference eventually shifting to the domain “jref.com” in May 2002. Over the years, Japan Reference (JREF) has continually expanded from a mere link directory to a comprehensive Japan portal dealing with all aspects of Japanese culture, history, society and language.
