The International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) is an educational, environmental 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to combating light pollution worldwide. It advocates for the protection of the night sky, educates the public and policymakers about night sky conservation, promotes environmentally responsible outdoor lighting, and empowers the public with necessary tools and resources. The IDA works with the public, city planners, legislators, lighting manufacturers, parks, and protected areas to provide and implement smart lighting choices. It identifies and publicizes the negative impacts of artificial light at night on human health, wildlife, and climate change. The International Dark-Sky Association was founded in 1988 and is based in Tucson, Arizona.
