Informix provides database management systems for data warehousing, e-business applications, and transaction processing. Informix Corporation was originally named Relational Database Systems Inc. and was created in 1980 by Roger Sippl. The company changed its name to Informix Corporation prior to going public in 1986. The company pursued a strategy of development and acquisition in the mid 80s. The company's best known product was the Informix database. Since its acquisition by IBM in 2005, IBM Informix is one of the world’s most widely used database servers, with users ranging from the world’s largest corporations to startups.
