The HEART Freshwater Center is an alliance of agencies working together to study the Huron to Erie Corridor through research, education, and training in order to improve the ecosystems of the water bodies and the quality of life for the people who use them. The center focuses on the areas of St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, the Detroit River, and western Lake Erie. The HEART facilities are designed to support a variety of activities tailored to stakeholder needs, including workshops and seminars, hosting of visiting faculty for scientists, water research in traditional and emerging areas, and education. The HEART Freshwater Center is managed by Wayne State University, Macomb Community College, Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority, and Macomb County.
