GNU is a Unix-like operating system that has a collection of programs, including user-oriented applications, libraries, developer tools, games, and more. Many of the programs in GNU are released under the auspices of the GNU Project. GNU’s aim is to offer a Unix-compatible system, consisting completely free software. It is an operating system put together by people working together for the freedom of all software users to control their computing. GNU was launched in 1983 by Richard Stallman.
