The GMPG (Global Multimedia Protocols Group) attempts to stimulate simplification of virtual substructures and bring people to question established structures and their relationships. The organization engages in experiments in Metamemetics in order to express human relationships on the web. The GMPG efforts include XFN (XHTML Friends Network): a way to represent human relationships using hyperlinks; and XMDP (XHTML Meta Data Profiles): an XHTML-based format for defining HTML meta data profiles that are easy to read and write by both humans and machines. The GMPG was co-founded by [Tantek Çelik](https://www.crunchbase.com/person/tantek-elik), [Eric Meyer](https://www.crunchbase.com/person/eric-meyer-oh), and [Matthew Mullenweg](https://www.crunchbase.com/person/matt-mullenweg) in 2003.
