Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) is a global research program that enables its users to study the behavior of individuals starting and managing a business. The research program is an annual assessment of the entrepreneurial activities, aspirations, and attitudes of individuals across a wide range of countries. GEM’s mission is to measure differences in the levels of entrepreneurial activities between countries, uncover factors leading to appropriate levels of entrepreneurship, and suggest policies that may enhance the national levels of entrepreneurial activities. Initiated in 1999 as a partnership between [London Business School](http://www.crunchbase.com/organization/london-business-school) and [Babson College](http://www.crunchbase.com/organization/babson-college), the first study covered 10 countries and since then nearly 100 national teams from every corner of the globe have participated in the project which continues to grow annually.
