Gateway to the Great Outdoors empowers children from urban areas by providing them the opportunity to explore and learn from the natural environment. Outdoor exploration fosters self-confidence and helps to develop leadership skills that are essential for all youth. At Gateway to the Great Outdoors, they run regular after school programming and monthly weekend outdoors trips for middle school children from low income communities. They help these students unlock their own leadership potential by ensuring that the children receive the necessary emotional and empowering support needed to succeed. More importantly, we seek to foster a positive relationship with learning and the natural world that will give their students tools to enjoy and protect the environment.
