Ethnologue is an active research project involving hundreds of linguists and other researchers around the world. It provides information to anyone with an interest in cross-cultural communication, bilingualism, literacy rates, language planning and policy, language development, language relationships, endangered languages, and writing systems. Ethnologue was launched in 1951 by Richard Pittman. It is based in Dallas, Texas.
