Doha Delivery started out as a delivery menu website and as customer interest grew I added an online ordering feature. Monetizing is difficult because taking credit cards online in Qatar is near impossible. The banks have monopolies on payment gateways and charge upwards of $8K to set up. Also, converting and on-boarding restaurants is extremely difficult and time-consuming. Restaurant managers don't own their restaurants and their only incentive is not to get fired. Managers and staff are also very un-tech savvy. I did not want to set-up a call center to use the "mechanical turk" solution like Yemeksepti (foodonclick.com), FoodPanda or Talabat.com. These models are too costly to work in the ME with such small markets. In all, DD gets a steady stream of traffic thanks to excellent SEO and social media use and now makes modest profits from ads. The restaurant managers that are savvy enough to use the online ordering dashboard (optimized for tablets) use it successfully and for free.
