DESY is a German accelerator center that develops, builds, and operates large particle accelerators used to investigate the structure of matter. It offers a broad research spectrum focused on three areas: accelerator development, construction, and operation; photon science; and particle and astroparticle physics. DESY is a member of the Helmholtz Association, a German scientific organization. DESY was founded in 1959 and its offices are based in Hamburg and in Zeuthen, near Berlin.
