DefendNet was founded as Virtual Media Technologies in 1996 by Vincent Giordano, former senior marketing manager at American Power Conversion. Originally offering Web hosting and integrated security consulting and services directly to businesses, the company decided to focus its efforts on providing its managed Internet security service, DefendNet, through Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and other carriers, and to rename itself to reflect this change. Today, the company has grown to 22 employees, and has a rapidly growing list of customers. In April 2000, DefendNet secured $8 million in seed funding from M/C Venture Partners.
