Day Tours World was established in September 2011 by Cathal O’Connell and Stephen O’Sullivan. O’Connell is founder/owner of Paddywagon Tours and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur finalist in 2009 and O’Sullivan of Splash.ie was winner of the 2011 Website of the Year in the Travel, Tourism & Hospitality Category at the Eircom Spider awards. Based on their extensive experience in tourism, both promoters identified a business opportunity to develop a web portal exclusively geared towards day tours: activities, excursions or day trips in any location around the world of less than 24-hour duration. Day Tours aims to be “the HQ for things to do” aimed in particular at small/medium-sized tour operators. On the back of this, they have developed a plug-in booking engine – dayrez.com – that day-tour operators can easily integrate into their own websites, allowing them to take online bookings directly.
