Winis is a social media/gaming hybrid that allows friends to find and challenge each other in a variety of independently-developed games. However, unlike other such gaming networks, players can bet each other in virtual currency to raise the stakes. When a player win a game he gets special currency call diamonds, that currency can then be used to have real rewards, like headphone or personalised phone case. Currently, Winis players can challenge each other to basketball, backgammon, “wininarow,” a game that plays very much like Connect 4 as well as Tic-Tac-Toe. Each game is developed by independent game developers, and as the gaming ecosystem grows, more games will be added to the platform. The beta version of Winis is available for download on the App Store. An Android version of the platform is in development.
