Founded in 1994 in Stuttgart, Germany, by five business partners, Brokat Technologies began by providing online banking services for financial institutions. The company experienced extraordinary growth as its technology was rapidly adopted throughout Europe. Brokat then expanded into the Asia-Pacific region. By December 1999, more than 2,000 companies and 2 million end-users worldwide conducted e-business activities using Brokat products. In 2000 Brokat significantly increased its presence in the United States by acquiring three companies: Blaze Software, Inc.; GemStone Systems, Inc.; and Automated Financial Systems, Inc.
