Biomedical Enterprises Inc. (BME) was founded to research, develop and commercialize medical products. BME's first product, an innovative dialysis needle (the BME needle), reduces patient complications resulting from hemodialysis, thereby increasing revenue for dialysis clinics and reducing cost for medical insurers. The BME needle provides a solution to the number one problem plaguing dialysis clinics, dialysis patients and insurers - clotting and occlusion of the vascular access. In addition, the BME needle appears to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress which also decrease the occurrence of medical complications. The company is raising funds to commercialize the needle and in the process of obtaining government approval for commercialization. The company has obtained about $1.0 million in grants from the U.S. National Institute of Health for R&D.
