BackGate was first created with the mission to stop the slaughter of horses. This grew to create a horse enthusiast social network (30.5% of American households have a horse enthusiast). Then we created a patent-pending micro-sponsorship marketplace to allow brands an efficient way to drive grassroots word of mouth. The idea behind micro-sponsorships is paleo-marketing. Modern advertising no longer works, everyone's yelling. But word of mouth is still the holy grail. What if a brand could drive positive word of mouth at scale across the country by people with high social status? That's what we're building. But why start with the equestrian community?
