The American Assembly is a public policy institute that fosters non-partisan, public-policy discussions through convening, research, and publication. It has held over100 ‘American Assemblies’ have been held on topics ranging from prison reform to health care to nuclear disarmament. The projects have made a wide range of contributions to economic, urban, and cultural policy, including projects on workforce development, financial regulation, and the role of the arts in American universities. It is divided into two major program areas, cities and knowledge economies, which focus on building the resources and networks needed to develop effective public policy in these areas. The American Assembly was founded by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1950 and is based in New York, United States.
