Weiju is a location-based, instant messaging application that enables users to chat with nearby strangers. It also allows users to send each other images, location information, audio media messages, and set up group chats to invite strangers to join the conversation. Launched on October 30, 2013, by Jiao Yi, former vice president of YY, Weiju received millions of investment by VC Lei Jun and YY Li Xueling. Weiju has had more than 1 million downloads in less than 2 weeks after its new version launched in Appstore. Its major competitors include MOMO, Yujian, Miyou, and Xiehou.
