The independence chair
I purchased an Independence Chair from Enable Me 2...
I purchased an Independence Chair from Enable Me 2 years ago, and it was a tremendous help in allowing me to gain some degree of function in the kitchen.
I am 76 years old and on a fixed income, so the thought of spending $6k on a chair was a difficult decision. The alternatives were very few. I could use my wheelchair, but it could not raise the seat to reach things on higher shelves, or I could stay out of the kitchen.
I did purchase the chair and grew to depend on it a lot.
Several weeks ago, the chair broke; the seat now spins freely, and it tends to move in unexpected directions. I had my son flip the chair over, and the welds on two structural pieces have broken. They are chrome-plated, so welding them could be difficult, to say the least, assuming that I could find someone to do the welding.
I contacted Enable Me multiple times about this situation, received promises for a callback, and never heard anything from them.
Now I have a $6k kitchen ornament that is somewhat usable.
I really liked the chair, but in its current state, it can be dangerous to use.
I hope others consider my situation and think long and hard about spending $6k for a chair that does not last very long from a company that does not really support its customers.
