Had to visit the emergency room with a heart issue.....absolutely everyone in every department was professional, the staff was more than helpful, and the over experience was first class. I recommend without hesitation or reservation the Watauga Medical Center.

Had my first and only visit to an ER here. I was given a drug that I had a severe allergic reaction to and then discharged even though I was unable to drive myself home and in severe pain.
Check in was easy and we waited 2 minute to be taken back. We had our own room so my family could wait there. Judy, my nurse, was so nice and planned ahead for my needs. Wilma started my IV and I didn t feel it! She numbs it! Kevin Henson was my anesthesia provider and I highly recommend him- he explains everything well and eased my anxiety with informed intellect and genuine care. Dr Beaver is of course the best. Carole and Scottie, my OR nurses were reassuring and made all small comforts - like tucking me in and keeping me modest. My recovery nurse Laurie was smart and funny and made me laugh. I cannot remember my check out nurse but I left smiling and relieved all went well. I cannot say enough good things about my surgery- I am difficult and critical and it was best case scenario. My family did say the cafeteria could have been easier to negotiate and the food looked like it had been out too long.
I had an accidental overdose an was sent here. The following day when I asked where I was an what had happened the only thing I was handed discharge papers an told I hadda go that I was discharged while my stomach was being pumped but they were being nice enough to let me continue to sleep til the following day. How you gonna discharge me when I'm getting my stomach pumped? Was I even awake? An they still didnt tell me how i got there..
I had outpatient surgery with Dr Neil Goldman at your facility on 11/7/19. I live in Elkin, NC but came to Dr Goldman because he was highly recommended. I was not familiar with your facility, but was pleasantly surprised by the efficiency, staff compassion, ease in accessing the facility and overall experience. I would like to especially recognize nurse Emily who went above and beyond and has a wonderful personality and obviously loves what she does and where she works. Also, my secondary anesthesiologist whose name I did not get, was very pleasant and compassionate. I would highly recommend your facility!! Thank you
Don't go here even if you're dying. In December of 2014 this place destroyed my career. I had the flu and was having what I know now to be neurological side effects from a migraine, (dr in Florida knew exactly what it was and only had to wait 6 months to find out since Watauga was clueless) they gave me a spinal tap. In the process of doing so they punctured my spine leaving a leak of spinal fluid. After 3 weeks with an insufferable headache, I went back to get a blood patch to fix it and was then treated like a junkie looking for a fix. Btw a blood patch consists of a physician drawing blood, and then inserting said blood into your spine. Sounds like what every drug addict wants right? But this is what I asked for and that was how I was treated. I was denied this procedure even though my physician sent me to the hospital specifically for it, and was told anesthesiology refused to come in, only to find out the next morning they were never called because I called directly in tears. Since the nightmare spinal tap I have had trouble with numbness in my arms and legs, as well as loss of motor function in my hands which is a career ender for a hair dresser. So if you want to be treated like a junky and have massive side effects from treatments feel free to hit up the er at Watauga medical.
My son, an APP student had shoulder surgery here. (Snowboarding injury) The surgeon, RNs, anesthesiologist, everyone was super kind, personable and professional! Made an unfortunate event as pleasurable as possible!
I was visiting from out of town and They saved my life. I had to have emergency gallbladder removal. They took exceptional care of me and I felt informed the whole time. I had minimal pain afterwards and was able to go home the next day. I would recommend this hospital to all my friends and family. I felt safe and cared for. Thank you for saving my life. Dr. Bell, and ER staff, all the radiological team, Dr. Daugher and team, you are truly phenomenal at what you do. I wouldn t be here without you and I know it. We were visiting from Winston and honestly I felt more cared for here. The bedside was wonderful and I had round the clock care. Thank you for caring for me. I m sad to see the negative reviews below because it was nothing I experienced at all. I am thankful for this hospital and the community should feel blessed to have such highly skilled people working here.
Considering the circumstances, I had a wonderful experience here. Everytime I went to speak to nurse, despite them being a full house, they were polite and were speedy to treat my boyfriend who was sick. Special shootout to nurse Peyton she did a wonderful job and had a perky and polite attitude the entire time.
Ski'd at Sugar all day. Son fell and hurt back at 3:45. Transported to the hospital for evaluation. From the moment I walked in, I felt a lack of real care here. Sure, there were people that were friendly, but I didn't feel like there was a real sense of process for handling things. After we came in, I had to pull a nurse aside to ask what would happen next. The nurse practitioner was great and communicated with a real bedside manner. The shift nurse-not so much. She comes in 5 minutes before 7, says to the both of us that the only thing they were missing was a urine sample. With my son lying on the table, in a neck immobilizing brace, she asked him if he could do this on his own - never offering to help him to accomplish the task. After she walks out, I peeked outside the ER room we are in, to see her gathering her things to go home. She was apparently more concerned with getting home than helping a patient who had been brought in by ambulance, with three fractured vertebrae produce a urine sample to make sure he didn't have a punctured kidney. The stay in the ER was 4 hours, (which I actually thought was reasonable given the potential seriousness of the condition). But it just didn't seem like there was order. I never met a doctor, and I felt the conversations I overheard from our room, that were taking place in the nurses station were not the kinds of things patients should be overhearing. One of the most positive aspects of this experience was the fact that the paramedic was waiting in the room with my son when I arrived about 20 minutes after he was brought in. He was watching over him, which I thought was really admirable. Thank you for that!
Be wary. My daughter went to the ER on a holiday weekend when none of the clinics were open with symptoms of a sinus infection. When they finally looked at her and performed a CT Scan of the Paranasal Sinuses to confirm the sinus blockage - you would think that would have been enough. Prescribe something for the infection, something for the pain (since she had a bad headache) and she's good to go. However - they decided to perform a full CT scan as well to the tune of $1300 to try and diagnose her headache! Really! She was sick and in pain, and they took advantage of this to perform very expensive and unnecessary tests. Surprisingly the results of the full CT scan were inconclusive. Over $2900 for 3-1/2 hours in the emergency room for a sinus infection. Be very wary if you ever have to go to this ER or send your college student there.
I had my baby by caesarian in mid July at this hospital, their service was great! All the nurses, cafeteria and cleaning staff they all are very caring and friendly, there's no day without them asking me if I was okay and need something. Due to covid 19 I don't really have anyone stay at the hospital with me for the rest of my staying days but the nurses at birthing center all are super helpful, they help me to taking care of my baby when I need to rest! Dr Andrews was my doctor, she is really nice and friendly, she provided lots of informations I needed. Thank you so much everyone!
