Great service, really good food (ate in bar area so don't know if they have a separate dining room menu). Four (or was it five? ) IPAs on tap, but none of them are all that exceptional....should step up their game with, perhaps, Goose Island IPA, or the holy grail, Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA! Ice cream pie on dessert menu....who doesn't love that?! Would go again when back in Ames.
Poor service for large parties. We called ahead to try and make reservation, and they just hung up after replying "Okay." When we arrived they informed a two hour wait. That is about a 20% in tips lost.
Good food and service (especially if you like Iowa State)
Tonight was my second time at Wallaby's. This time we sat rooftop. At my first visit I order the mahi mahi tacos, they were light and refreshing as any fish taco should be. When we got there tonight I wanted the same thing. So I started with an Old Fashioned w Maker's, the bartender did not know how to make my drink. Our serve was kind enough to comp the beverage and trade it for something else, a Bloody Mary-with no vodka, the drinks took 10 mins for the bartender to make as we watched him meander around and chitchat. We order cheesy fries to start, which were great- good suggestion by our waitress(never told us her name) order the tacos again, this time ..about 45 mins later the tacos came out, slathered in mayo and way over cooked, so disappointing when all you want is something light. Extremely disappointed tonight. Incredibly slow service, inexperienced bartender and poor food prep, enough to keep me away for a while from Wallabys
It s a cool family friendly sports bar with plenty of TVs (duh, it s a sports bar).
The food is decent, but the service experience started off on the wrong foot. I walked in and found the hostess stand, but I couldn t find the hostess. I waited for about a minute or two and finally I decided to seat myself. I grabbed a table and waited and waited and waited. I got up and grabbed my own menu, then a server finally showed up. He apologized for the confusion and the delay.
After that little hiccup, the service was spot-on. The drink refills were frequent without having to ask, and he followed up frequently to see if I needed anything else.
I had the veggie burger and a side salad with tomato vinaigrette dressing (I d skip this dressing folks, it tasted like it was just ketchup). The veggie patty was made from black beans, quinoa, and roasted red pepper. The burger was ok, but nothing to really write home about.
The place has a nice atmosphere but it got a little loud around lunch time as customers started trickling in.
Although the service started off bad, it did get better, so I would try them again.
Their rooftop bar and dining area is awesome when the weather holds.
Ate there last night with a large group. Drinks and appetizers. Our waitress was fantastic. She was prompt and polite. Wallabys was always a favorite of mine at the old location and the new location didn't disappoint.
One of the nicest restaurants in Ames. Great staff and food. Predictable service. Ask for Will the bartender.
Service is ok. Thermostat was set to 79, so it is uncomfortably warm in some areas. Food was plated well but very bland.
Loved eating on the rooftop with a nice fire behind me!
We absolutely LOVE wallaby's. This is always our go to place for dining in and take out or just for after work drinks. It is always clean and the staff is always friendly and awesome. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. (The spinach artichoke dip is THE BEST though)
Great Iowa State Restaurant! Atmosphere and food are excellent!
One of the best tasting sports bar I've ever been to. I've had two burgers and seafood from here; the burgers were phenomenally cooked and the seafood was pretty good for Iowa. Atmosphere is great with plenty of TV's and an upstairs patio. The staff is consistently friendly.
Great service and the cheese fries with bacon are delicious!!!
Food was excellent!! Best I've had in quite sometime! Waitress was very nice but a little lax...
It's a sports bar, so it's a bit noisey. It's a little pricey, but it has many TV screens. Food is pretty good.
Always a great place to hang out with friends, watching Cyclone Athletic events, and enjoy awesome food and beverages!
Established Bar & Grille for 20 years. Simply in new location. Big screen T.V.'s, booth seating- table seating- tall chair seating as well. Great ambience. Friday crowd is lively. Especially with ISU home opener @ Jake Trice Stadium/Mid-America Energy Field tomorrow vs. UNI Panthers
Had a great Holiday Party. Food was great. Ambience matched the socialising which was fantastic. Thanx.
Wonderful place to go, especially on nice days to sit out on their upstairs porch and have a few drinks and/or a meal.
Great service and food, first time. 4 in party each meal was fantastic. Try the DeBurgo burger, yum!
Ribs were tough and very little flavor. Grilled chicken was good. Service was great.
Tastey, decent price. Open air was great on a hot summers day with a breeze.
Been coming for years! Great food, drink, atmosphere and people!!
Nice place especially the upstairs in Spring/Summer time is really good. The food is also good for a Sports bar.
Awesome food. Awesome drinks. Try the cheese fries appetizer, it's huge!
Went back again tonight. Dean was our server. One of the best servers I ve ever had! Very friendly and polite.
Service was great. Food was lacking, specifically the ribeye.
Similar to Dublin Bay, the apps are the only thing worth buying here.
One of the few places in Ames with a decent outdoor patio. Prices are a little high, but I usually beat that by using the appetizer menu. Decent portions without the entree price tag.
Always have good food with normally a very attentive staff.
Good food and the upstairs patio is great now that it is warmer out!
I LOVE this place. Interesting sandwiches and amazing fries, and this is the closest thing you'll find to a rooftop patio restaurant in Ames. They also have a cool mix of Iowa State-related athletics decorations, like the giant Georges Niang cutout used so often at Hilton.
On my graduation we went here to celebrate, and our waiter gave us the best customer service I have ever received at a restaurant. He went above and beyond to try and make the celebration special. While the food is just a bit expensive, I've found it's totally worth it.
Established Bar and Grille for 20 years. Simply in new location. Multiple Big Screen T.V.'s. Booth and Tall chair setting available. Great place for Sports -Brew and food
Awesome place! Food was amazing, service was great, and the atmosphere was outstanding. Very cool "Up-scale" mix of Modern/Rustic/Industrial. Steel, wood, stone, brick, and very well put together! I want to live there! haha
The food is always pretty good. The staff is personable and efficient. Good Somerset location, but parking is problematic during peak hours. The entire experience is enhanced immeasurably by being seated on their rooftop terrace during warm weather.
We were told that it was going to be an hour wait, but after waiting an hour we were told it would be at least another hour until we could be seated. This place is awfully mismanaged and has no care for the experiences of their customers.
I enjoyed an order of cheesy fries with bacon and a Wally's Dip with my wife on a Friday night. Even though the place was busy, the service was adequate, but the food made up for it. It appears that they have an upstairs deck for when it gets warm out, but I could not check it out because it was cold and snowy out. This would have received a 5 star review had the wait staff been a little better and if the lobby wasn't uncomfortably small with limited seating.
Nice open-air seating upstairs. If you want some breakfast in your lunch, definitely get the sunny-side up burger.
So I actually go here a lot. I like to eat on the roof in the summer. Underneath it in the winter. Open year-round. Ample parking.
We dined here again today. As always, their breaded mushrooms were amazing. My Wally Dip was very tasty, and a there was plenty of it. (I had to enlist help to finish it.) We will be back again.
Great service. Food is amazing. Our favorite is the blooming onion.
Great food, great service....highly recommend this place!!!
I was actually really excited to try this place. The patio on the roof is cool but the service sucked, the cocktails were extremely overpriced for their alcohol content, and worst of all me and my girlfriend were there for an hour and she never got her food. First time I haven't tipped in my life.
Cool place with a flexible atmosphere, if you will. There's seating like your typical bar and grill, and there's also a side area without TV's. The menu has some variety with reasonable prices. Appetizers are great, and they definitely boast a wide array of drinks!
Wallaby's is simply hit or miss.
Depending on the day you could have a great 4 start experience in both food and services. Or You could also find yourself there on an off day, where the food and service are below mediocre.
Level's out to a 2/5 since the prices are fairly high for a hit or miss experience.
Patio dining. Laid back casual setting. Great foos
Great atmosphere, good service. We were seated promptly. (5:30 on a Friday.) Food did not all come at once and a couple of us were waiting for a bit, which was annoying given that one was a child. The salmon entree I had was excellent. However, everyone who ordered burgers were disappointed as they were all overcooked and dry, and the toppings were not as flavorful as expected. The grilled cheese kids' meal was also disappointing and the "cookie" included with the kids meal were vanilla wafers - not what we expected at all and definitely not a restaurant-level choice in my opinion.
Good food, good atmosphere, great place to dine with family.
Best rooftop bar! Tasty drinks and attentive bartender=great time had by all!
