I watched the movie on Netflix...a must see! I can't visit the park, but I am going to donate money directly through the official website and I encourage others to do the same. Good wishes are not enough...send money...every donation will help preserve this park and help all of the animals who live there.

Absolutely Stunning! The lodge with the tent camp is First Class. The food was 5 star!! Sat around the fireplace and watched the monkeys in the trees. We hiked and were so close to the Gorillas. Visited the family with 44 members and were able to see 25... once in a lifetime experience! Highly recommend.

Incredibly beautiful area, closer to the animals than ever again. Here a person feels that nothing is more important than our earth and the elements. No fantasy counts here like God or the Bible ... here everyone is the element alone. Body and skill count here. A dream.

This park, its rangers, and the native animals are under attack from the most vile types of humans. It needs donations, volunteers, and people who have military skills to destroy those who attack the park and its rangers.

Extraordinary places, it is a pity that the poverty and the conditions of the population cancel the pleasure of such shows. Not to mention the war and the dangers that are run for it. If I had not been part of a humanitarian mission (I am a volunteer doctor) and therefore escorted by the army I do not think I would have returned home. Finally, in the park there are no more animals, exterminated or migrated to other regions. Due to the guerrillas.

My trip had it all: babies, a charging gorilla, wrestling youth, a mother fresh off a fight missing a thumb, and a huuuuge silverback jumping out of a tree not too far from us. With a professional guide/ranger (Jean), we felt safe and informed. The hike is no joke; I went with a friend that did a gorilla trek in Rwanda a few months back, and she said it was much more dense. There were a few steep (more than 45 degree) climbs. Make sure you have trousers on, lots of water and a great camera.

What an experience! We stayed at the Kibumba lodge and it was epic. A lodge with a great view at the Nyiragongo. Seeing the gorillas in their natural habitat is the most amazing thing I've experienced so far. The hike in the forest can be challenging, but it is certainly worth it.

About Virunga National Park

Virunga National Park is a protected area located in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is one of the most biologically diverse areas on the planet and home to some of the world's critically endangered species, including mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, and okapis. The park covers an area of 7,800 square kilometers and was established in 1925 as Africa's first national park.

The park is named after the Virunga Mountains that run through its northern section. These mountains are home to several active volcanoes, including Mount Nyiragongo which erupted in 2002 causing widespread destruction. Despite this natural disaster, Virunga National Park remains a popular tourist destination for those seeking adventure and wildlife encounters.

One of the main attractions at Virunga National Park is its population of mountain gorillas. These gentle giants are only found in three countries worldwide - Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo - with around half living within this national park alone. Visitors can take guided tours to see these magnificent creatures up close while also learning about their habitat and conservation efforts.

In addition to gorillas, visitors can also spot other primates such as chimpanzees and colobus monkeys during their visit to Virunga National Park. The park is also home to over 700 bird species making it a birdwatcher's paradise.

Aside from wildlife viewing opportunities, there are plenty of other activities available at Virunga National Park such as hiking trails through lush forests or up steep volcanic slopes for breathtaking views across Lake Kivu or even into neighboring Rwanda or Uganda! For those looking for more adrenaline-fueled experiences there are options like kayaking on Lake Edward or white-water rafting down rapids on nearby rivers.

Despite being one of Africa's oldest national parks with a rich history dating back almost a century ago when it was first established by Belgian colonial authorities; today it faces many challenges due mainly due to political instability within DR Congo itself which has led to illegal poaching activities by armed groups who have taken advantage over lack security measures put place protect animals living here from harm caused humans encroaching upon their habitats without permission granted them access land where they live freely without fear persecution any kind whatsoever!

To combat these threats facing wildlife populations within Virunga National Park; rangers work tirelessly day night patrol borders surrounding areas ensure safety all animals living here while educating local communities importance preserving biodiversity found throughout region so that future generations may enjoy same benefits we do today!
